Lake Todos los Santos: real estate for sale

In order to protect and preserve its landscape, flora and fauna, Lake Todos los Santos in the 10th Region of Chile became in 1926 the core of the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. As a national ecological reserve, the Todos los Santos is protected from environmental degradation. This National Park covers 253 000 hectares (roughly 630 000 acres) of wilderness. Moreover, it is contiguous with the Puyehue NP in Chile and the Nahuel Huapi and Lanin NPs across the border in Argentia, for a total protected land of ca. 15 000 square kilometers (roughly 5700 sq. miles).

Lake Todos los Santos has two road accesses. Petrohue, on its western end, is linked to Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt by a good road. Peulla, at the eastern end, is linked by road, through the Vicente Perez Rosales pass, with Puerto Frias in Argentina. Although it is possible to get from Petrohue to Bariloche with car, such exercise requires three ferry services and is therefore not practical. Car drivers prefer to take the Puyehue international pass that links Osorno with Bariloche and the Nahuel Huapi lake. There is another access to the Todos los Santos from Ralun, at the innermost end of the Reloncavi fjord, to Cayutue at the southern end of the lake, but this acces can be practiced only in season. The lake has no ring road, and no good reason to construct one. Instead, future development development of the VPR NP foresees establishing hiking paths, including the Sendero Huilliche and the Jesuits Pass.

Lake region inhabitants use boats for their transport needs. A navigation service linking Petrohue and Peulla, mainly to serve tourism, also provides a scheduled transport service to residents. Both in Petrohue and Peulla there are good hotels and restaurants. Petrohue is at less than 100 km by road from Puerto Montt, the regional capital. There are frequent public buses plying this road. Puerto Montt has an airport with frequent flights to Santiago. Both in Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas there are properly staffed and outfitted medical clinics. On the Todos los Santos one is "out of this world" but not really unreachably remote.

The estate proposed here has access to untreated yet good drinking water and cellular telephone coverage. Heating, hot water and basic cooking are ensured through firewood. Refrigerator and impromptu cooking can be ensured through commercial bottled gas. Electric light and necessary domestic appliances require ad-hoc solutions involving battery storage. The batteries can be loaded through a petrol or diesel generator and/or a wind generator and/or hydropower and/or solar cells.

The Google Maps links proposed on the right column make it easy to have a satellite view of the land for sale. All thumbnnail images can be boosted for a larger picture and explanations. The first button on the left column gives access to black and white printing of this text. This page is optimized for 1200 width screens. The central column (this column) is elastic and on smaller screens will wrap in shorter lines and extrude the text towards the bottom.

The Punta de las Cruces estate

The Punta de las Cruces estate has approximately 58 hectares of land with 1400 metres of shore on lake Todos los Santos. The larger part of this land is exposed to the north (the sunny side). The land is covered with valdivian rainforest, partly old growth and renewed since early settlement a century ago. There are (small) terraces for pasture, gardening and orchards. At one point there is a panoramic view of 270 degrees from the Osorno to the West to the Tronador in the East. There is access to a large beach and mooring at the bottom of Puerto Verde bay. There is a springwater source, which can also be used for micro-hydropower. Wind power can also be harnessed.
